Abstract
- This article explores the challenges faced by women with systemic vasculitides, rare rheumatic diseases characterized by inflammation in blood vessel walls, during pregnancy. It emphasizes the importance of planning pregnancy when the disease is in remission and on stable pregnancy-compatible immunosuppressants. The article presents findings from a qualitative study that highlights the need for patient self-advocacy and improved communication between healthcare providers. It also discusses the outcomes of pregnancies in women with vasculitis, with most resulting in live births but some complications. The article acknowledges the need for further research to accurately estimate the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes in women with vasculitis and suggests training more reproductive rheumatologists and creating multidisciplinary clinics to improve reproductive health management for these patients.
