Abstract

A pilot study conducted in the Alavi Bohra community in Vadodara City, Gujarat, India, aimed to assess the prevalence of obesity and cardiometabolic risk factors among Alavi Bohra adult women. The study found a high prevalence of obesity (56.6%) and overweight (17.9%) among the participants. Additionally, the study revealed a strong positive correlation between various body composition parameters and highlighted the interdependence of these factors. The results also indicated a high prevalence of prediabetes, diabetes, and dyslipidemia among the women. The conicity index was identified as a predictor of both prediabetes and diabetes, but further validation is needed from a larger Indian population. [Extracted from the article]
