Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Sydney explores strategies to reduce mental health-related emergency department (ED) visits. The study focuses on the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and uses a participatory approach involving local stakeholders to develop a system dynamics model. The findings suggest that improving the mental health care system through various strategies, such as increasing capacity growth rate, leveraging digital technologies, implementing mobile crisis response teams, screening for suicide risk, and providing psychosocial education, can lead to a significant reduction in youth mental health-related ED visits. The study emphasizes the importance of not only increasing mental health care capacity but also implementing structural reforms to address this issue. [Extracted from the article]
