Abstract

A recent study conducted at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, explored the relationship between tobacco use and trigeminal neuralgia (TN). The study analyzed data from 171 patients with TN who underwent microvascular decompression (MVD) and found that smokers with TN were younger and more likely to experience widespread facial pain compared to nonsmokers. Additionally, smokers were less likely to be pain-free off medications at the last follow-up. These findings suggest that TN in smokers may be more severe and have different responses to treatment compared to TN in nonsmokers. [Extracted from the article]
