Abstract
- A report from St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin, Ireland, discusses the underutilization of the antipsychotic medication clozapine in the treatment of refractory schizophrenia. The study surveyed 77 consultant psychiatrists in Ireland and found that while clinicians were knowledgeable about clozapine's effectiveness and guidelines, there were perceived barriers to its use, including patient concerns about effectiveness and tolerability. The report suggests that structured patient education and professional development programs focused on managing side effects and rechallenge may promote the use of clozapine. The research has been peer-reviewed and is available in the Irish Journal of Psychological Medicine. [Extracted from the article]
