Abstract

Researchers from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California have conducted a study on the proteins secreted by cardiac stromal fibroblasts (CF) during ischemia, or reduced blood flow, in the heart. They examined the expression and function of these proteins in the left ventricle (LV) after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) and myocardial infarction (MI), as well as in CF cultures. The study found that certain proteins were upregulated in LV-CABG tissues and downregulated in LV-MI tissues, while others showed the opposite pattern. Single cell transcriptomics revealed different sub-phenotypes of CF based on the expression of these proteins. Further research is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms and validate these sub-populations for potential therapeutic applications in cardiac diseases. [Extracted from the article]
