Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine focused on multiple myeloma (MM) with initial manifestations in the sphenoid sinus, orbital apex, and skull base, which is a rare occurrence. The study involved a systematic review of existing cases and included a case report of a patient with immunoglobulin D-lambda (IgD-l) MM. The researchers found that the clinical manifestations of IgD-l MM in these locations can make early diagnosis challenging, and emphasized the importance of diagnostic tools such as CT/magnetic resonance scans, endoscopic approaches for tissue biopsy, and bone marrow biopsy. The study provides valuable insights into the epidemiology and advancements in understanding this rare form of MM. [Extracted from the article]
