Abstract

A study examined the impact of traumatic brain injury (TBI) on mortality in older adults with and without pre-injury dementia. The research found that TBIs were associated with higher mortality rates compared to non-TBI trauma (NTT), especially in older age groups. Pre-injury dementia significantly increased mortality rates at 6 and 12 months post-injury. The study highlights the need to better understand the factors contributing to poor outcomes in older adults with TBIs, particularly those with pre-existing dementia. [Extracted from the article]
