Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom explored sex differences in the prevalence of knee and hip osteoarthritis. The research found that females tend to have a higher prevalence of knee osteoarthritis, while the prevalence of hip osteoarthritis varies depending on how the disease is defined. Clinically or symptomatically defined hip osteoarthritis is more common in females, whereas radiographically defined hip osteoarthritis is more common in males. The study suggests that these disparities may be influenced by hormonal, biomechanical, and behavioral factors. [Extracted from the article]
