Abstract

A study conducted at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City focused on the role of MRI in predicting outcomes for patients with rectal cancer undergoing total neoadjuvant therapy. The study found that MRI response categories were predictive of organ preservation and survival rates, with certain imaging features associated with residual disease. The research, supported by the NIH National Cancer Institute, concluded that restricted diffusion and abnormal nodal morphologic features on MRI scans were linked to a higher likelihood of residual tumor.
