Abstract

Researchers from Universitat de Barcelona conducted a study on varicose veins in patients with cirrhosis, focusing on the accuracy of hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) in reflecting portal pressure. The study found that despite HVPG dropping below 10 mmHg after etiologic factor removal, varices persisted in some patients. The research highlights the importance of HVPG in assessing portal hypertension post-treatment and calls for further studies to validate these findings and guide clinical management. The study was published in JHEP Reports and was supported by various institutions. [Extracted from the article]
