Abstract

Researchers from Johns Hopkins University have conducted a study on Parkinson's Disease, focusing on the role of the GBA1 gene mutation in neuroinflammation and the spread of pathogenic alpha-synuclein in the brain. The study utilized a mutant mouse model to investigate how the Gba1 E326K mutation exacerbates disease pathology by promoting neuroinflammation and alpha-synuclein transmission. The findings suggest potential new therapeutic strategies for Parkinson's disease and related synucleinopathies. The research was funded by various organizations including the NIH National Institute of Neurological Disorders & Stroke and the United States Department of Defense. [Extracted from the article]
