Abstract

A new study conducted by a researcher at the University of California explores the impact of high- and low-intensity case management services on hospital and emergency department use among adult Medicaid beneficiaries. The study found that high-intensity services were associated with a reduction in inpatient admissions, ED visits, and avoidable ED visits compared to low-intensity services. The research suggests that intensive case management may be particularly beneficial in supporting discharge and transitions of care for individuals with non-zero healthcare use.
