Abstract
- Cold metal transfer (CMT)–wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) exhibits great potential in the production of large structural metallic components. Many studies have focused on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the parts produced using CMT–WAAM. However, the corrosion resistance of such parts has barely been investigated. In this study, parts of stainless steel (SS) 308L were fabricated using CMT–WAAM. Further, the microstructure and corrosion resistance in different areas of the parts were analyzed. The microstructure of such parts comprised austenite and ferrite. The residual ferrite was distributed in austenite in the form of strips and skeletons. The electrochemical corrosion testing revealed that the corrosion performance of the middle sample was the best while that of the bottom sample was the worst. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
