Abstract

The article discusses the clinical utility of carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX) expression as a diagnostic marker for distinguishing pleural mesothelioma from non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). The study found that CAIX expression had high sensitivity in detecting pleural epithelioid mesothelioma, comparable to or better than currently used markers. The specificity of CAIX was also within a comparable range to commonly used markers, making it a valuable tool for the differential diagnosis of mesothelioma from NSCLC. The study was recently published in the Journal of Clinical and Translational Pathology, the official scientific journal of the Chinese American Pathologists Association (CAPA).
