Abstract

A recent study conducted by Ruhr-Universitat Bochum in Germany explored the relationship between therapeutic alliance and suicidal ideation in brief cognitive behavioral therapy for outpatients. The research involved 643 outpatients who received 12 sessions of manual-based short-term CBT for primary diagnosis treatment. The study found that there was no predictive association between pretreatment suicidal ideation and the quality of the early alliance, nor was the therapeutic alliance predictive of changes in suicidal ideation. The researchers suggest that future studies should investigate therapeutic alliance as a predictor of prospective suicidal behavior in different clinical settings. [Extracted from the article]
