Abstract
- A recent study conducted at Lund University in Sweden found a high prevalence of suboptimal selenium status in Swedish heart failure patients, with up to 70% of patients having selenium deficiency. The study also identified the presence of autoantibodies to selenoprotein P, which may disrupt transportation mechanisms. The researchers suggest that large, well-designed randomized controlled trials are needed to assess the efficacy and safety of selenium supplementation as a potential treatment option for heart failure patients.
