Abstract

The article presents information on entrepreneur Wesley McKinney, who duped about 6000 depositors, hundreds of employees and some bankers. McKinney persuaded these people convincing that he would make them rich. McKinney exploited a system in which each regulator defended his own fiefdom, seemingly barely mindful of perils beyond it. McKinney bought everything--oil rigs, yacht, condominium--on credit duping big-league bankers along the way. McKinney believed in sharing the wealth. There were new Cadillacs, Mercedes and other fancy cars every year for the senior management of the insurance companies and the banks with which he used to deal.
