Abstract

The article discusses the rapid diagnosis of a fox's death case using nanopore sequencing, revealing an infection with an Arctic-like rabies virus. The study highlights the importance of early diagnosis of emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) in wildlife conservation. Nanopore sequencing proved to be a portable and affordable technique for rapid diagnosis of viral EIDs, showcasing its potential in wildlife conservation efforts. The study also emphasizes the need for active surveillance of rabies in the fox population in northeastern China due to the complex circulation of rabies viruses in the region.
