Abstract
- Researchers at Technical University Chemnitz in Germany have conducted a study on the development of functional coatings on polyetheretherketone (PEEK) implants that stimulate bone growth and exhibit antibacterial properties. The study focused on applying ZnO-doped hydroxyapatite coatings to PEEK using a hybrid plasma spraying process. The research, which received financial support from German BMWi, aimed to address the stress-shielding effect of metallic implants by utilizing PEEK's similar Young's modulus to bone. The findings were published in the Journal of Thermal Spray Technology and have been peer-reviewed. [Extracted from the article]
