Abstract

A study conducted by the University of Geneva examined the impact of early music intervention on emotional and neurodevelopmental outcomes of preterm infants at 12 and 24 months. The research involved 119 newborns, including very preterm (VPT) and full-term (FT) infants, with VPT infants randomly assigned to either a music intervention group or a control group. The findings suggested that the VPT infants who received the music intervention showed lower fear reactivity and higher positive motor actions compared to the control group and FT infants. While no significant effects were observed on mental, language, and motor outcomes, the study indicated that early music intervention in the NICU may influence emotional processing in preterm children.
