Abstract
- A recent case report from West China Second University Hospital discusses a severe case of drug-induced immune hemolytic anemia caused by piperacillin, a beta-lactamase inhibitor commonly used to treat urinary tract infections. The patient experienced rare adverse reactions to piperacillin, including anemia and hemolytic anemia, with an incidence rate of 0.01-0.10%. Prompt recognition of the drug reaction, cessation of piperacillin use, and a blood transfusion led to the patient's recovery and subsequent discharge from the hospital. This research sheds light on the importance of monitoring and managing potential adverse reactions to antibiotics like piperacillin. [Extracted from the article]
