Abstract

A recent study conducted by the University of Bordeaux in France examined the association between fluoroquinolones and spontaneous pneumothorax. The research found that there was an increased risk of spontaneous pneumothorax associated with both fluoroquinolone and amoxicillin use, with a higher association for amoxicillin. The study concluded that the underlying infections may play a role in the risk of pneumothorax rather than a direct causal effect of the antibiotics. The findings were published in the journal Thorax and have been peer-reviewed. [Extracted from the article]
