Abstract

A study conducted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong analyzed the 9-year sleep trajectories of middle-aged and older adults in relation to chronic disease risks. The research found that sleeping less than 7 hours per day predicted higher risks of 11 chronic diseases, with psychiatric diseases showing the highest hazard ratio. The study identified five sleep trajectories, with consistently inadequate sleep linked to higher risks of most chronic diseases, particularly psychiatric diseases. The research concluded that digestive disease and arthritis were more sensitive to consistently inadequate sleep. [Extracted from the article]
