Abstract
- During the 2022-2023 respiratory virus season, news media coverage of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in the United States and Canada primarily focused on pediatric populations, with limited attention given to older adults and pregnant individuals, despite higher mortality rates in the latter groups. The availability of vaccines targeting older adults and pregnant individuals led to increased media coverage in May 2022, but this was still significantly lower than coverage of pediatric cases. Ageism and risk aversion related to pregnancy may have influenced the disproportionate reporting. The lack of media attention on RSV among older adults and pregnant individuals could contribute to complacency around vaccination in these populations. [Extracted from the article]
