Bridging Perspectives: Utilizing Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to Inform and Enhance Social Interventions.

Traditional approaches to designing social interventions often originate from the perspectives of social engineers, overlooking the nuanced experiences of those directly impacted by the intervention. Employing an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) methodological approach creates an opportunity for the researcher to delve into the world of those who access services and provide a more holistic understanding of the dynamics surrounding the social issues. This paper explores the multifaceted role of IPA within social interventions, emphasizing ways in which IPA can bridge the gap between social engineers and service users within the context of student affairs programming. By immersing researchers in the subjective worlds of participants, IPA offers a unique lens through which to understand both the underlying factors necessitating social programs and also the intricate experiences of those affected by societal challenges.
