Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Spain explored the effects of a 12-week concurrent training program on metabolic markers and cardiorespiratory fitness in individuals with insulin resistance (IR), with and without metformin treatment. The study included overweight/obese participants divided into three groups: exercise group, exercise-metformin group, and metformin-only control group. Results showed that both exercise groups experienced improvements in metabolic markers, insulin sensitivity, and fat oxidation, while the metformin-only group saw a decrease in cardiorespiratory fitness. The findings suggest that the training program, with or without metformin, was effective in improving metabolic markers in individuals with IR. [Extracted from the article]
