Abstract

A study conducted at Stanford University explored the relationship between hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, antenatal magnesium sulfate treatment, and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy in neonates. The research found that hypertensive disorders of pregnancy were associated with an increased risk of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, and treatment with magnesium sulfate was linked to a reduction in the odds of developing this condition. The study suggests that further clinical trials on the use of magnesium sulfate in term infants are warranted to confirm these findings. [Extracted from the article]
