Abstract
- A study conducted by Kyungpook National University in South Korea explored the potential of sodium phenylbutyrate (4-PBA) in preventing cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury (AKI). The research involved administering 4-PBA to a murine model before and after cisplatin challenge, evaluating tubular injury, serum BUN and creatinine levels, inflammatory markers, apoptosis, mitochondrial function, and the expression of pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4 (Pdk4). The study found that 4-PBA effectively prevented AKI by suppressing Pdk4 expression, without interfering with the anti-cancer efficacy of cisplatin. [Extracted from the article]
