Abstract

Researchers at New York Medical College conducted a study on the effects of maternal undernutrition-induced low birth weight on the development of high blood pressure and kidney disease in mice. The study found that aged low birth weight mice experienced renal oxidative stress, impaired vascular function, and altered sensitivity to angiotensin II, leading to increased blood pressure and decreased renal function. Pharmacological interventions targeting these factors improved vascular and renal function in the low birth weight mice. The research was supported by a National Institute of Health Grant and can be found in the Kidney and Blood Pressure Research journal. [Extracted from the article]
