Abstract

A recent study conducted at Hospital Pedro Hispano in Matosinhos, Portugal, focused on identifying serum metalloproteinase-7 (MMP-7) as a potential biomarker for progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF) in patients with fibrotic non-idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) interstitial lung diseases (ILDs). The research found significantly higher levels of MMP-7 in patients with PPF, suggesting its potential as a biomarker for identifying individuals at risk of developing PPF. This study highlights the importance of further investigating MMP-7 as a diagnostic tool for predicting disease progression in fibrotic ILDs beyond IPF. [Extracted from the article]
