Abstract

Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh have published new findings on RNA Viruses - Parechovirus, focusing on Enteroviruses (EVs) and parechoviruses (PeVs) as common childhood pathogens. The study highlights the clinical manifestations of these infections, including neurologic complications like meningitis, encephalitis, and acute flaccid myelitis. Despite the clinical importance of these viruses, there are currently no approved targeted therapies or vaccines available. The research aims to address unanswered questions regarding cellular tropism, dissemination mechanisms, receptor usage, immunologic control, and cellular death related to EV and PeV infections.
