Research Results from Gazi University Faculty of Medicine Update Understanding of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Retrospective Investigation of Cytomegalovirus and Epstein-Barr Virus Positivity in Inflammatory Bowel Disease Patient Biopsies).

A recent study conducted at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine focused on investigating the presence of cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in the intestinal tissue of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The study found that EBV positivity was 50% in ulcerative colitis (UC) and 40% in Crohn's disease (CD), while CMV positivity was 35% in UC and 17% in CD.
