Abstract
- A recent study conducted at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine focused on investigating the presence of cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in the intestinal tissue of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The study found that EBV positivity was 50% in ulcerative colitis (UC) and 40% in Crohn's disease (CD), while CMV positivity was 35% in UC and 17% in CD. The research suggests that these viruses may play a role in the pathogenesis of IBD and exacerbation of the disease, particularly in patients undergoing surgery. [Extracted from the article]
