Abstract

A recent study conducted by Queensland University of Technology examined the impact of Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) compliance on breastfeeding initiation in Sri Lanka, particularly in relation to different modes of birth. The research found that women who received care compliant with BFHI Steps 4 and 6 were more likely to initiate breastfeeding within the first hour after birth, regardless of their mode of birth. The study highlighted the importance of improving compliance with BFHI practices, such as mother-baby skin-to-skin contact, to support all women in establishing breastfeeding initiation within one hour of birth, especially in cases of caesarean section births.
