Abstract

The article discusses the development of a bioengineered visible polymeric mesh aimed at improving urogynaecological health by addressing pelvic floor disorders such as pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence. The mesh, composed of polymethylmethacrylate and thermoplastic polyurethane with iodine-doped carbon nanoparticles, aims to enhance visibility in medical imaging and prevent complications associated with traditional surgical interventions like transvaginal mesh implants. In vitro and in vivo studies have shown promising results in terms of biocompatibility, tissue regeneration, and mechanical properties closely resembling human tissue, suggesting potential for safer and more effective treatment options for pelvic floor disorders.
