Abstract

This article discusses a study which determined the effect of cadmium exposure on the post-mortem tissue concentrations of selenium, zinc, copper and iron in heart and aorta. The study also examined the potential correlations between hypertension and altered trace elements concentrations on cadmium-exposed and non-exposed subjects. High exposure to cadmium did not affect the distribution of selenium in heart and aorta. Generally, all trace element concentrations in heart, except cadmium, showed no changes.
