On average, the temperatures were higher than usual and total rainfall was about normal, a few ground frosts were reported, but no air frosts. December 1961 was outstandingly cold, especially during the last two weeks when easterly winds prevailed. Rainfall was above average, chiefly falling during the early part of the month.
