Abstract

The article relates issues pertaining to the operations and popularity of the extreme-right party, the National Front, led by Jean-Marie Le Pen in Marseilles and the growing backlash and threats to North African immigrants in France. Police claim an increase in racially motivated murders and other violent crimes. There were speculations that the growth of the National Front could give Le Pen enough representation to hold the balance of power in parliament thru the elections.
