Abstract

The article examines the economy that U.S. President Ronald Reagan will be leaving behind. Under the Reagan Administration, the national debt rose to $2.3 trillion. With much of the tax code indexed to inflation, the next President may have to consider a new levy on consumption, such as a national sales tax. By the time Reagan retires, he will have appointed all seven governors of the Federal Reserve Board.
