Abstract
- This article presents an overview of some problems with information as it relates to CD-ROM. First, most information is not in useful electronic form. In fact, something like 94 percent of commercial information is not in electronic form at all; it is mostly on paper. Second, most electronic databases are structurally incompatible. Third, most lucrative electronic information is real-time or very current. Lastly, most electronic publishing consists of summary data. The more traditional electronic publishing products rely on connections from a remote terminal to a mainframe. CD-ROM is quite capacious and cost-effective, but full text is not ready to go on it.
