Abstract
- The article claims that the increase of scientific activity in biotechnology and materials science is manifested by the increasing number of abstracts in the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) database from 1984 to 1989. According to an analysis of five-year data from 1984 to 1989, abstracts are designated to one of 80 subject sections of the CAS database. Among the subject sections that grew more than 30% between 1984 and 1989 include immunochemistry, fermentation and bioindustrial chemistry, and essential oils and cosmetics.
