Abstract
- The article highlights the lifted hope of U.S. Democrats in the 1988 Presidential campaign brought about by the sagging economy and several unforeseen obstacles for Republicans candidates U.S. Vice-President George Bush and Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole. It also looks into the Democrats' discovery of a campaign strategy called old-fashioned populism. Meanwhile, the inability of Bush to shake off about the Iran-contra affair has sent his credibility plummeting.
