Abstract

The article comments on social and political issues in the United States. New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has announced a state of emergency upon the start of snow fall in the city. Buses were ordered closed and cars were banned from the streets. He appealed for the people to remain calm. The author's New York resolution is that public-school day begin with a reading from the Declaration of Independence. This cannot be opposed by American Civil Liberties Union because it will find it hard to suggest that the Declaration of Independence is unconstitutional. It is suggested that if a convict of a violent crime is either released before his full sentence is served or not sent to prison, he should be required to wear distinctive dress in public.
