Abstract
- The article focuses on the work of artist Juan Gris and his relationship as painter with the poets close to him. According to the author, in an artist's theorising is to be found important insights into his pictorial concerns, so far as he is conscious of them, but the fact remains that how an artist works and what he produces never fits altogether comfortably with the theories, and in Gris's case it is established that the work did not follow the theories but vice versa. It is also suggested that Gris enjoyed reading and he took particular pleasure in poetry.
