Abstract

The article compares Japanese artists Shinohara Ushio and Lee Ufan. Shinohara's paintings and sculptures from the early 1960s to the present are almost uniformly disorder and obscene, while Lee demonstrated his characteristically quiet and distilled paintings and sculptures of the last 15 years. Both artists are transcultural. The article discusses the important roles played by both artists in the development of postwar art in Japan.
