Abstract

The article presents a Jewish social study by Doron Bar entitled "Holocaust Commemoration in Israel During the 1950's: The Holocaust Cellar on Mount Zion." It states that at the end of World War II the magnitude of the Holocaust became clear, Jews began thinking about the most appropriate ways to solemnly honor it. The Holocaust Cellar was one of the first commemoration sites for the Holocaust's victims, it is positioned on Mount Zion near King David's Tomb overlooking the Old City of Jerusalem. General Shmuel Zanwil Kahana, Ministry of Religious Affair's, created Mount Zion an independent mode of commemoration while refining the Holocaust Cellar as the main traditional commemoration site in Israel.
