Abstract
- Examines the association between water and the hemoglobin molecules in the red blood cell. Evidence for the apparent peculiarity of red cell water which arose from classical studies of how cells shrink and swell; Reason behind the capability of the cell to carry its large concentration of hemoglobin through the body without rupturing because of osmotic pressure; Measurement of the osmotic properties of a hemoglobin solution placed on one side of a cellophane membrane.
