The article presents information on Russia as the biggest insurance market in central and eastern Europe. According to a Swiss Re Sigma report published in 2005, Russia's non-life insurance premiums grew by 17.6% in 2004, mostly because of the new law. It has also been noted that the average Russian spends $62 on insurance each year, compared with $185 in Hungary and $1,800 in Germany. More and more companies are starting to take notice of Russia as a serious insurance centre. Several of Russia's firms are now rated by international rating agencies.
