Abstract

The article describes the design and application of high-energy machines relative to nuclear fission. American physics is ahead from the rest of the world in building bigger and better equipment. These big machines are known by several names: cyclotrons, betatrons, synchrotrons and linear accelerator. Their purpose is to produce high energy particles and multiply the energy that could be concentrated before the war in an electron, proton or neutron by a factor of ten or more. Cyclotron works by applying to a particle a rather small accelerating field but applying this field either repeatedly or over a long path.
