The article features Alejandro Ingelmo, the first in his family, who became popular in Cuba in the 1930s and 1940s for producing men's dress shoes, to design women's shoes. He is inspired by the shoes worn by the women in his downtown New York neighborhood. His family's tradition of making shoes date back to more than 100 years ago to his great-grandfather in Salamanca, Spain.
